As part of the ceremony, Christmas Wreaths are presented to the Memorial Cross Families, formerly the Silver Cross Mothers, who lost a son or daughter who served with the Canadian Armed Forces. We also honour Gold Star Wives and Mothers from the United States who have lost husbands or children in service to their country. We honour these families during this ceremony. We know that the families that receive these wreaths to honour their son or daughter are grateful that their sacrifice is remembered. We also present a wreath to the Civil Air Patrol that will be taken back to the United States to be laid at an appropriate cenotaph. This ceremony in Alberta is now the largest in North America and comes from the Wreaths Across America or Canada initiative.
